Playmobil is one of Europe's most awarded toy brands. Launched in Germany in 1974, there are now over 1.8 billion Playmobil figures in the world!
Playmobil is built around the 7cm (2.75 inch) tall figures. They have rotating hands that can hold all the accessories, arms that move, bend at the waist and heads that rotate. All figures have a smile (even the wicked pirates!). All the themes are interchangable, as are the accessories. So Fairies can drive helicopters and Pirates can use a vacuum cleaner! The play options are limited only by your imagination.
The figures are incredibly durable and made from child safe plastic. I still have figures that I received in 1978! The sets are built in Europe (Germany, Malta and the Czech Republic).
Each year Playmobil releases dozens of new sets. These range from entire new themes, like the African Safari, School and Dragonland released in Australian in 2010, to six different individual "Specials" twice a year. Periodically they will revamp a theme, such as a complete new Knights range or Fire range.
I have been collecting Playmobil since 1978 so I can probably answer any question you have about Playmobil - or offer suggestions about what sets your child might like.
